A group of severely injured Palestinian children arrives in Slovenia for medical treatment

In recent days, a group of seven severely injured Palestinian children has arrived in Slovenia directly from Gaza, accompanied by their mothers.

The children, aged between four and fourteen, urgently require medical treatment that cannot be provided in Gaza due to the complete destruction of its healthcare system caused by the horrific genocidal war.

During their stay, we will ensure a safe environment, stable medical care, and dignified conditions for recovery. The children are expected to remain in Slovenia until the end of this year or until the completion of their rehabilitation, in accordance with the assessment of their attending physicians and other medical staff.

The entire medical program, accommodation, and all living expenses for the group are fully covered through the support of international donors who recognized the urgency, the humanitarian imperative, and the moral duty to assist children who have survived the unimaginable. This mission was made possible thanks to the generous financial support of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. We express our profound gratitude to Algeria and to its President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, whose personal dedication and humanitarian leadership were instrumental in enabling this life-saving operation. The agreement that enabled this mission was reached during President Tebboune’s official visit to Slovenia in May 2025, following consultations with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Robert Golob. The project does not place any burden on the Slovenian healthcare system or the national budget.
The arrival of the group was enabled by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, which on 23 October 2025 adopted the decision to issue temporary residence permits in the Republic of Slovenia for six months for 10 Palestinian patients and 10 accompanying family members. Due to extremely difficult conditions on the ground, not all ten were able to reach Slovenia: one child died before evacuation, another could not be transported due to a sudden deterioration in health, and the family of a third was forced to withdraw due to objective circumstances. The Government also activated the international Medevac mechanism for the evacuation of patients.
In carrying out the evacuation, our foundation worked closely with the U.S.-registered nonprofit charitable organization Kinder Relief Inc., Wilmington, Delaware, which has staff in Gaza and elsewhere in the region.
This humanitarian initiative is carried out solely to provide the most vulnerable—children who have survived the horrors of genocidal war—with access to medical treatment that would otherwise remain out of reach. It is a continuation of the foundation’s 15 years of work, during which we have brought 224 Palestinian children to Slovenia for treatment.

On this occasion, we express our sincere and deep gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, especially Prime Minister Dr. Robert Golob, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon, the competent directorates within the ministry, and the Slovenian embassies in Cairo and Tel Aviv, as well as the consulate in Amman, all of whom provided essential diplomatic and consular support under exceptionally challenging circumstances. We also thank the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, whose expertise contributed to the safe evacuation of the group through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre (EU/EERC), without whom the use of the Medevac mechanism would not have been possible.

Through their cooperation, all the institutions involved demonstrated that humanity and the protection of children remain fundamental values of our country.

This project has once again confirmed that international solidarity and care for the most vulnerable transcend political differences. We also extend our gratitude to the medical institutions, volunteers, and donors who make it possible to offer these children a chance for recovery and a better future.
