For the past two years the 'Let Them Dream' – Danilo Türk Foundation has also been putting their mission to help children, victims of all forms of abuse into realization by financially supporting the establishment and running of the tenth Slovenian crisis centre – the Nova Gorica Crisis Centre for Children and Youth (from whence it got its name “Desetka” - meaning “tenth” in Slovenian) and the Žarek Day Centre (it gets it name from the word "Žarek" - meaning "ray of sunshine" in Slovenian), also in Nova Gorica. Both centres are intended for children and youth who are looking for a path to adulthood and want or need professional help.
Ivanka Drnovšček, the director of the Centre for Social Work in Nova Gorica, within which Desetka and Žarek operate, wrote to us saying:
“The 'Let Them Dream' – Danilo Türk Foundation played a key role in getting the Desetka and Žarek crisis centres up and running by providing the funds to furnish and renovate all the areas in the crisis centre and partially also the Day Centre. Only after this did the start and development of activities for the children in these places really get going.
We were very pleased and honoured by the visit from President Dr. Danilo Türk, on 9 November 2011. The President had a friendly chat with the children and staff. In March this year, our children got the opportunity to spend a very enjoyable and unforgettable day at Rogla with top athlete Petra Majdič and the President, Dr. Danilo Türk, thanks to the Foundation. The Foundation also invited us on a summer holiday, on which two of our children went.
The Foundation’s contribution is one that we cherish very much. In the name of our children and youth, we want to thank them for making this event, and other events like it, possible, and we hope to be part of similar activities in the future. We wish the Foundation and the people that support it all the very best in continuing their mission.”
